WELCOME NEW FIFTH GRADERS AND FAMILIES!
We are excited to welcome you to the start of a new school year!
Students will be using their purple communication folder as their “Friday Folder”. This folder will be sent home on Friday and it is to be returned on Monday. Any notes, work, or other papers will be kept in this folder at school. Each teacher has a designated mailbox in their classroom for the children to place notes or papers.
In lieu of newsletters, we will once again be using our fifth grade weebly http://violet5thgrade.weebly.com/ and email to communicate with parents regarding all things fifth grade. This website contains information regarding upcoming events and announements. We rely heavily on email and this website to communicate with parents so please bookmark this site on your browser and check it often. Please also ensure that the email you provide in the parent portal of Power School is an up-to-date and active account. Please ensure that email from your child's teacher or Violet Elementary is not directed into your Spam folder.
As always, we will hit the ground running in September. Enjoy the remaining days of summer. We are looking forward to working with you and your child to make this a fantastic school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via phone or email, meetings will be held by appointment only.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Camaj
Mrs. Husek

Fifth Grade Proficiency Scale
***Grading Scale***
4 Advanced = 95% - 100% (above grade level)
3 Proficient = 75% - 94% (at grade level)
2 Partially Proficient = 60% - 74% (below grade level, support provided)
1 Not Proficient = 59% and below (significantly below grade level, support provided)
Students are assessed using a standards based approach; we do not use letter grades for daily assignments, homework projects, tests, quizzes, etc. Students are given a percentage and a proficiency level on all graded work; not all assignments are graded and entered into the students’ final report card.
We wanted to explain our approach to assessing your child. Elementary children no longer receive letter grades; we are only using 4, 3, 2, and 1 on your child's report card.
